IDOLATRY |
| Ritual = man's relation
to physical objects. Religion = man's relation to God, to Creation. Don't mistake (and idolatrize) the finger pointing at the moon, for the moon itself. |
| God made a mistake: Men
tend to idolize ritual, because it's easier to perform rituals than to follow ethical injunctions. So through the words of the prophets, God seeks to correct the situation. |
| "Thou shalt have no
other god before Me," per Rabbi Falcon, means don't invest anything else with power; that's equivalent to the Buddhist injunction to not form attachments to the physical senses or other material world conceits. Put another way: |
| The Old Testament was
about people worshipping (literally) pieces of wood and gold (deity idols). Now, it's also about people worshipping pieces of wood and gold, i.e., houses and jewelry (money idols). |
| The original, normal and
preferred state of man is love, not hate; peace, not war; joy, not suffering; oneness, not division; knowledge, not ignorance; and God, not idolatry. I welcome as brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and lovers all who want to come with me back to the original man state, what is for us the normal and preferred man state: the only One that can really Be. |
